Szczecin is a city of almost half a million people in north-western Poland. The star-shaped layout of its squares and roundabouts will remind you of Paris – and with good reason – both cities were designed by the same urban planner. Szczecin is a student-friendly city with a thriving cultural scene.

It’s a great place to live, a great place to study, and well worth a visit!

Everything’s close by!
There’s a popular saying that Szczecin is by the sea. That’s not entirely true, but we’re just a stone’s throw away from the sea. A direct train to Międzyzdroje or Świnoujście will take you to the beach in 1-2 hours. You can also get to the coast by bus. It’s also worth visiting the beautiful beaches on the Szczecin Lagoon (about an hour’s journey).

As we’re so close to Germany, it’s also worth heading in that direction. It takes just 2 hours to reach Berlin by bus or train, one of Europe’s largest cities and a major cultural hub. Berlin’s galleries, museums, concert halls and pubs are literally at your fingertips. There are also beautiful German Cultural Centres nearby such as Schwedt and Greifswald with thriving musical theatres.

It’s easy to get to other cities in Poland - the train to Poznań takes 2 hours and to Warsaw around 4.5 hours.

From our Goleniów Airport, you can fly directly to Warsaw, Cracow (Poland), Greece, Norway, UK, Ireland, Turkey, Egypt.

Nature in Szczecin

Szczecin is a beautiful city, known as the ‘Green City’, situated in the Odra river basin, on the shores of the vast Dąbie Lake, amidst forests and parks.

Within the city itself, we have 3 large parks with paths for walking, cycling or running, 2 primeval forests, viewing terraces, beautifully situated cycle routes, walking trails and beaches. We’re also particularly proud of the boulevards along the Oder – this is where the nightlife really comes alive, thanks to the numerous cafés (including restaurants on boats) and events.

If you enjoy water-based adventures, Szczecin is the place for you. There’s a beautiful sailing harbour, a marina and hire services for boats, kayaks, pedalos and even the Boom Boat – parties held on a boat floating on the Oder. Check also Głębokie Lake!. For those craving sporting thrills, Szczecin also has something exciting to offer. Of course, there’s Pogoń Szczecin – which will soon have a modern stadium. The volleyball and basketball teams are also enjoying success and providing fans with plenty of excitement.

Our city is ideal for runners – there are beautifully situated training routes both in and outside the city, and numerous running events are organised (including half-marathons and triathlons). Szczecin also has lovely routes for cyclists, roller skaters and inline skaters, and even a skate park in an old underpass.

Life after hours

Szczecin is a city that smells of chocolate – there’s a chocolate factory here that’s still in operation, enveloping the city in a delightful aroma. The aromas of Szczecin’s chocolate also waft from the numerous cafés and pubs, where you’ll find good coffee and food (including vegan and vegetarian options!). The beautifully situated Bogusława Promenade (Deptak Bogusława) is the city’s nightlife hub – numerous bars, restaurants, cafés, pubs and venues beckon. Nightlife, especially in summer, also thrives along the boulevards.

If you fancy a dance, clubs and discos that have won national awards are waiting for you. For beer connoisseurs, Szczecin offers brews from its own microbreweries, whilst lovers of fine wine will appreciate the Winnica Turnau brand, located not far from the city.

If, on the other hand, you’re a good food lover, you’ll find something to suit your taste here. Cuisines from around the world, seafood specialities, vegan and vegetarian restaurants. We also recommend trying our local dishes – the famous herring sandwiches and pastries, and for late-night snack lovers – chips in a bun!
